4th of July!

After a sermon a few months ago, and three years since our last block party, a neighbor and I felt called to plan a neighborhood fourth of July party. We made flyers and the kids passed them out to all the neighbors. On the actual day, we set up in front of our house. We put a pool, sand bag toss, and our next door neighbor rolled out his ping pong table. We had lots of food, and drinks and it turned out to be a great night! The kids had a great time with each other. At one point, the neighbor girls were making over Nate and Luke. It was hilarious! We also had a pit-spitting contest. (We always did this growing up.) You eat a cherry and have a contest to see who can spit the pit the farthest. The kids LOVED this, for obvious reasons!

We just sat, and played and got to know our neighbors. Luckily Graice went to bed pretty early (after eating about a hlaf of a watermelon) so I could sit and relax and not have to follow our (gulp) one year old around. Later when it got dark, we lit off what seemed to be a TON of fireworks. Everybody brought their own, so the display was huge. We let the boys (for the first time ever) stay up super late and they loved it. I think they were finally in bed a little after 11. All in all, we had a wonderful fourth and got to know some of our neighbors.

Here's Luke at about 10:30. He was loopy tired, but still too wound up to want to go to bed. So he would come and lay down in my lap, then run off with the neighbor kids, and back and forth. Fun!
